Градът - Бургас Град Бургас е най-големият и най-важният икономически, административен и културен център в южната част на Българското черноморие. Той е втори по големина наш черноморски град след Варна и четвърти в страната след София, Пловдив и Варна. Има много изгодно географско положение, което днес се използва в най- голяма степен. Градът е разположен край едноименния, дълбоко врязан в сушата и много удобен за корабоплаване - най-големия на българското крайбрежие залив. Градът е в съседство с Атанасовското езеро (от север), Бургаското (от запад) и Мандренското (от югозапад). Надморската височина е 2- 27 метра. Градът е морското пристанище на цяла Южна България, включително и на София, и отстои от столицата на 385 км, на 267 км от Пловдив и 133 км от Варна. Геограското положение е било оценено още в най-дълбока древност и тук, както показват разкопките, е имало рибарско и търговско селище още преди нашата ера. Бургас е наследник на стария римски град Дебелтус и на византийските рибарски селища Пиргос, Форос, Порос и Стравияко. Днешното име на Бургас е дадено през 1727 г. Самото наименование Бургас съдържа корена бург, който е съставна част в имената на редица световноизвестни градове: Хамбург, Йоханесбург, Питсбург и т.н. Коренът бург в европейските езици произхожда от латински и в тях е придобил значението град.В езиково отношение произходът на името Бургас идва от старогръцкото пюргос /пиргос/, което означава кула. В голямото семейство на индоевропейските езици пиргос и бургос са идентични. Гръцкото пиргос и латинското бургос имат за основа общ индоевропейски корен. Към това трябва да добавим, че според проф. Кирил Влахов пюргос е дума и от тракийския език, който също е индоевропейски. Според него пюргос означава на тракийски укрепление от дебели дървени греди. Климатът в Бургас е умерено континентален. Непосредствената близост на Черно море прави зимата сравнително топла и мека, с незначителни снеговалежи.Средната температура е над 0 градуса С. Поради преграждането на северните студени ветрове от източните склонове на Стара планина, тя е с 1 до 3 градуса по-висока от температурата на Варна. Пролетта обикновено закъснява и е по-продължителна, отколкото във вътрешността на страната. Лятото е топло и продължително, без големи горещини, поради прохладния вятър, който духа от морето в следобедните и вечерните часове. Температурата на морската вода е с 1 до 3 градуса по-висока от тази на морето по северното Черноморие. Терасовидният релеф благоприятства архитектурното устройствено разнообразие на града, на неговия силует. За развитието на Бургас през последните 11 десетилетия говорят данните за нарастването на населението. През 1844 г. рибарското селище е имало към 2000 жители, през 1884 г. - 5864 жители, а през 1900 г. - 11 738. През 1920 г. населението на Бургас се удвоява и достига 21 170 ж. През 1934 г. са 34 260, 1946 г. - 44 400, 1965 г.- 106 115, 1975 г. - 148 662, 1985 г. - 182 338/пети по големина/, а през 1992 г. - 190 057 жители /четвърто място/. Междувременно Бургаското пристанище израстна като модерно с широка специализация - за нефт, въглища, торове, риба, метали, машини. Чрез него се осъществява 60 % от морския стокооборот на страната. По кейовете му има над 80 корабни места. Бургас стана главно вносно и износно пристанище за цяла Южна България и София. Днес Бургас е център на една от най-значителните в икономическо отношение области на България. The City - Bourgas The development of the town is a natural result from the preceding social, economical, political and cultural development of the region. The sea as a living and a romance has urged the citizens of the ancient Greek colonies Apolonia and Anchialo to look for a living and protection in the comfortable Black Sea bay. The earlier signs of life in the crossroad location can be traced back to bronze and the beginning of the iron age. A great quantity of finds attests the availability of life activities during the Thracian age which ranges over the second half of the VI century B.C. The name of Bourgas, the administrative centre of the Municipality Bourgas appears for the first time in 1306 in the poem of Byzantine poet Manuil Fill as Pirgos, the Greek equivalent of the Latin word Burgos, which means the Tower. Bourgas appears on the map for the first time in the year 1733. According to the English map issued in 1854, Bourgas occupies an area of 1 sq.km. Бecause of its crossroad position and the comfortable seaport the town starts to grow fast. The sea on one side was a natural door and relation to different civilizations through which the settlers established contact with the achievements of peoples from near and far. From the sea they expected to earn their living. On the other side the sea was a point of departure for the export of wooden coal extracted from the Strandja mountain and for agricultural produce mainly grains, which came from the interior of the country. In the second half of the XVII century Bourgas had a brisk trade and in the beginning of the XIX century it acquired a strategic importance. In the beginning of 1878 the town was liberated from the Ottoman oppression. After the liberation Bourgas gradually grew as a port and commercial centre of Southern Bulgaria. The town plan, effective since 1891 stimulated the construction of new churches, schools, residential and administrative buildings. The century-long economical and cultural contacts have shaped today's social and economical nature of Bourgas, the spirit of its citizens and the original atmosphere of the town. Тhe free spirit, the artistic atmosphere and the creative energy of Bourgas, which distinguish the town among others, are a contribution of its prominent artists in the past and the present but also of its thousands of citizens. The Drama Theatre Adriana Budevska has formed stages in the development of Bulgarian theatre, the Opera and the Philharmonic Society, the Puppet Theatre, the Folklore Ensemble Strandja, the popular Music Band Hot Sand. The Choir Rodna Pesen and other represent the variety of cultural institutions and the richness of the cultural offer in Bourgas.
